About Us
Scotland is the home of golf and it has over 550 registered golf courses. Every year the top 100 courses are rated by a variety of websites, magazines and blogs. Having read many of theses lists I was intrigued about the variety of the courses in Scotland and also interested to know if it is possible to rank theses courses without having played them all.
I had been an avid reader of the www.top100golfcourses.co.uk website and would regularly use the site to determine a course to play when I was looking for a game at a weekend. Through this the idea to play the top 100 was starting to take shape and after a visit from some Canadian buddies the concept to create a website to detail my adventures was formed.
So in September 2010 the Scottish Top 100 blog was born. Since then a refresh of the Top 100 has been made by www.top100golfcourses.co.uk but as of 1st January 2011 we will be using the 2011 list for the challenge for the next couple of years. My goal is to play and review all 100 courses and to provide some updates on my own golfing experiences and progress. Along the way I have met some fantastic guys who have either helped me to play these courses or have joined up for the ride - we are all looking forward to many more golf days together!
Who am I?
I am a late convert to gowf. I didn't pick up a club until I was in my late 20s. In fact Tiger Woods on the Wii was the closest I had ever been to a golf course in my life until then! Around 3 1/2 years ago I started to going with some friends to the local municipal 9 hole for a hack around and then got bitten by the bug. I had a few lessons and just started to play and then play so more. My first membership was a country member at Murrayshall in Perthshire and then I have followed this with my first full membership at the Broughty Golf Club at Monifieth Links. I have also started to take semi-regular lessons with the assistant pro at Ladybank, Fraser Galloway to help improve my golf. My handicap remains high but I do feel that there is a half decent golfer in there somewhere! How can you help?
Are you a member of a Top 100 course that hasn't been played or do you know someone that is a member of one of the unplayed courses? If so, then please feel free to contact us to arrange a time to meet up and play the links. An acknowledgement of thanks will be given for your assistance. Alternatively if you have stumbled across an offer of golf at a reasonable price then please let us know - playing the top 100 isnt cheap!
